~~Dozer is an almost 3 year-old intact German Shepherd/Heeler X (54 pounds) who is VERY eager to please. He bonds very quickly to people, and attaches to one person in particular at a time it seems - although he is nice to everyone, he has his favorite. He is becoming less reactive to other dogs - I think a mellow female and him would do fine together; I do not think he would do well with another male dog, at least not a rambunctious one. We will require that Dozer be neutered before leaving the clinic, but he is current on all vaccinations. He does so-so on a leash, but we recently began using a haltie/gentle leader and it is working GREAT! He responds well to verbal corrections and knows sit, lie down, shake, and has a decent recall (only tested on a long line so far). He does want to chase cats, big time. Not sure what he would do if he caught one, I have not tried. But after ONE stern correction yesterday when a cat in a carrier was presented, he avoided it like the plague. He only then came near the cat's box when asked to, he sniffed politely once, then continued avoiding it. He very much wants to please and he is very intelligent. He kennels really nicely and only talks about it when his favorite person enters and leaves the room - but he settles soon after or when told to quiet down. He has a very silly personality, uses his paws like hands when he is playing. Yesterday, we had him loose in the clinic with a female (dominant and calm) and he did awesome - sniffed a bit, stiffened up once or twice, but did not growl or put his hackles up - he mostly chose to ignore her. He has not shown any signs of aggression/possessiveness toward people when it comes to food or toys, I haven't tried with other dogs, but he has not seemed to care about toys much.
