Derek can be described as a gentle bull in a china shop.  He is a big, exuberant dog and has no idea that he weighs 70 pounds and not 5.  He is great with other dogs, cats and chickens.  He loves people, children would be fine although due to his size and energy he may be too much for small children.  He bonds with his people quite easily and wants to be with them. He is house trained and kennel trained. He doesn't like to be left behind so it would be advised to kennel him when left alone. Due to his missing leg, he is energetic, but not non-stop.  He has bursts of energy, nicknamed "zoomies" by his foster family, followed by couch potato, where he just wants to snuggle with his person.  He is a wonderful dog and the family that is lucky to adopt him will have a happy, loving addition to their pack.
